Chinese automotive giant BYD has informed the public about two important issues that have been on the agenda recently. The company’s Turkey operations stated that the recall program, covering 115,000 vehicles, did not affect users in Turkey, while also putting an end to the discussions surrounding the planned factory investment in Manisa.
A significant development regarding BYD’s Turkey operations
Following reports shared by some media outlets, BYD Turkey released a statement detailing the recall operation conducted in China. The statement emphasized that this campaign only covers certain TANG hybrid and Yuan Pro models sold in the Chinese domestic market and manufactured between 2015 and 2022. The company clearly stated that such operations are part of its user experience improvement and production philosophy, and that no models sold in Turkey are affected by this situation.
BYD, aiming to grow in the European market, continues to take important steps in this regard. According to a Reuters report, the company plans to build a new factory in Spain, due to its low production costs and clean energy infrastructure. The giant brand, which will begin production at its facility in Hungary at the end of the year, aims to manufacture all the electric vehicles it sells in Europe within three years. As part of this ambitious goal, Turkey is among the company’s investment plans.
Meanwhile, recent reports have surfaced that BYD has not made any progress at the factory it plans to build in Manisa with a $1 billion investment. Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD) President Cengiz Eroldu’s statement that no concrete activity has begun despite a year having passed since the investment raised questions about the project’s future. İhlas News Agency also highlighted the silence at the construction site. Official sources, responding to these claims, told CNBC-e that both BYD and Chery’s investments in Turkey are proceeding as planned and that there are no delays.
All these developments once again demonstrate the interest of Chinese automotive brands in the Turkish market and production. While clear information about the recall reassures consumers in Turkey, the future of the factory investment is being closely monitored by the industry. So, what do you think about these major investments and market strategies of Chinese automakers in Turkey?
